According to the urban planning until 2030, in addition to the Cat Linh – Ha Dong line, Hanoi will have an additional 8 urban railway lines with a total length of 410.8km, including 342.2km of elevated and surface tracks, and the remaining 68.6km underground. This includes the three Metro lines 5, 6, and 7 passing through Vinhomes Smart City urban area.
The centrally planned routes are as follows:
- Line 1 consists of 2 branches: Ngoc Hoi – Hanoi Central Station – Gia Lam – Yen Vien and Gia Lam – Duong Xa (Phu Thuy); Elevated line combining urban and national railways. The length of the line is approximately 36km.
- Line 2: Noi Bai – Nam Thang Long – Hoang Hoa Tham – Bo Ho – Hang Bai – Dai Co Viet – Thượng Đình – Belt Road 2.5 – Hoàng Quốc Việt with a length of about 42km, elevated section from Noi Bai to Hoang Quoc Viet and underground on the remaining section. This line is organized to run in both directions, with a central direction.
- Line 2A: Cat Linh – Ngã Tư Sở – Ha Dong with a length of about 14km.
- Line 3: Troi – Nhon – Hanoi Station – Hoang Mai with a length of about 26km, elevated section from Troi to Cau Giay and mainly underground on the remaining section with a total of 26 stations. Phase 1 construction from Nhon to Hanoi Station. This line is under construction and is scheduled to be fully operational by 2023.
- Line 4: Me Linh – Dong Anh – Sai Dong – Vinh Tuy – Belt Road 2.5 – Co Nhue – Lien Ha with a length of about 54km. The section from Me Linh – Dong Anh – Sai Dong – crossing the Red River – Vinh Tuy – Thượng Đình is planned to be elevated, from Thượng Đình – Hoàng Quốc Việt planned to be underground, and from Hoàng Quốc Việt – Lien Ha planned to be elevated.
- Line 5: Van Cao Street – Ngoc Khanh – Thang Long Avenue – Ring Road 4 – Hoa Lac with a length of about 39km. The section from Nam West Lake – Nguyen Chi Thanh – Tran Duy Hung – National Convention Center is underground, while the next section travels on the surface or elevated within the median strip of Thang Long Avenue.
- Line 6: Noi Bai – Phu Dien – Ha Dong – Ngoc Hoi with a length of about 43km.
- Line 7: Me Linh – New Urban Area Nhon – Van Canh – Duong Noi with a length of about 28km, entirely elevated or elevated with underground sections in the urban area of Ring Road 4.
- Line 8: Son Dong – Mai Dich (interchange with Line 2) – Ring Road 3 – Linh Nam – Duong Xa with a length of about 37km. The section from Son Dong – Mai Dich is planned to be elevated, the section following Ring Road 3 to Linh Nam is underground, and the section from Linh Nam – crossing the Red River – Duong Xa is elevated.
